  • Greetings everyone! My name is Maria. I am a psychologist of Russian descent, residing in the United States. I hold two Master’s degrees in psychology (one in clinical and another one in counseling) and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. I specialize in both individual and couples therapy. In my individual therapy practice, schema therapy is my primary tool, utilized in 99% of cases. Additionally, I integrate schema therapy with mindfulness-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

In my work with couples, I primarily employ Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Schema Therapy (ST). While I have a deeper expertise in EFT, I endeavor to integrate it with Schema Therapy for Couples, particularly when assisting couples where one or both partners are dealing with childhood trauma and symptoms of personality disorders. My training includes Certification Training in Individual Schema Therapy, Schema Therapy for couples, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Currently, I am receiving supervision in both Schema Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

I often work with English-speaking expats who live and work around the globe. Every couple I see comes from different cultural backgrounds, and many times, one of them is a native Russian speaker. My own life reflects this colorful mix; my family is a blend of different cultures from places like Russia, the United States, and Italy, and we chat in three languages at home.
